  • THE WORST JOBS IN SCIENCE

Pre-med student Stubbins Ffirth (1784–1820) ate, drank, and breathed the blood, urine and vomit of yellow-fever victims (he also dropped the fluids into his eyes and worked them into cuts on his skin). He didn't get sick—the patients were in a late, uncontagious stage—so he erroneously decided the disease's cause lurked elsewhere.

NEW ANIMAL DEATHS IN COQUIMBO REINFORCE CHUPACABRAS HYPOTHESIS

    By Armando Tapia

Paranormal events have strongly imprinted the weekly news in this region following several attacks by the alleged "Chupacabras" in the Pan de Azúcar sector. To this was added a report of "demonic possession in Caleta San Pedro: two enigmatic events for which there is still no conclusive answer...

A new attack by the mythic predator took place yesterday in Pan de Azucar, this time on the property of Carlos Errazuriz of Hacienda Venus. Increasing the fear that is already felt by local residents since the first deaths occurred on October 15, the fact is that the landowner was faced with the death of 15 of his canaries through exsanguination. The birds were not eaten...

  • Man Attempts Underwater Pumpkin Record

    Mon Oct 27,11:23 AM

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Mike Frantz wrestled underwater with a 1,028-pound pumpkin near this eastern Iowa town in an attempt to break a Guinness World Records title.

The 28-year-old Walcott man squeezed into scuba gear and carved the mammoth pumpkin under 17 feet of water at a rock quarry. Frantz thinks he broke the current record, which he said was set when a 955-pound pumpkin was carved underwater last year.

Frantz, who owns Mike's Giant Pumpkin Patch, got the idea from the Internet.

These unique walking canes are actually made from the reproductive organ of a bull. No kidding! These beautiful canes are for real! Stretched and dried with a 5/16" steel rod that is inserted from tip to tip, it's extremely durable and built to USE.

These types of canes were once owned by a few famous Americans such as Teddy Roosevelt who was given one by the Cheyenne Indians during his visit to Yellowstone in 1902. Other proud owners include Bat Masterson, John D. (Doc) Holliday, and Jack Dempsey.

  • High school senior came 'out' - and was expelled

By Elizabeth Clarke, Palm Beach Post Religion Writer
    Saturday, October 25, 2003

JUPITER -- On the third day of school, his Bible teacher -- who is also the school chaplain -- pulled him out of class with a personal question. Jeffrey said the teacher assured him they were having a confidential conversation, and then asked whether it was true that Jeffrey was a homosexual.

"I told him, 'Yes, I am gay.' "

Two days later, he was expelled.

It's something that could happen at other Christian schools in Florida, even those that accept public money through the state's voucher program as Jupiter Christian does.

"Christian schools do not have to compromise their biblical standards to accept a child on a voucher."
