Children Charged With Felonies Over Violent Drawings

    POSTED: 7:00 am EST January 26, 2005

Two schoolboys in Florida are under arrest, accused of drawing violent stick figures that showed a classmate getting stabbed.

The 9- and 10-year-old boys from a special education class in Ocala were hauled away in handcuffs, charged with a felony of threatening another person.

Police said the child depicted in the pencil-and-crayon drawings complained to his teacher, who alerted school authorities who called police.

  • Good God!  What a crock of bull!  What ever happened to freedom of expression?

  • Yeah, I saw those stick figures.  Hell, I’ve read comic books that were far worse.  Oh.  Bet they don’t allow comic books in school.

  • In today’s Sun-Sentinel, a 6-yr-old boy was arrested for throwing books at the teacher and the police officer. He said he did it because he had heard someone’s grandmother died, but the teacher is pressing charges.

  • What a bunch of crap! And they’re special education students, should they be held to the same standards as regular education students??? I would hate to think that my special needs son’s drawings could land him in jail. How about trying some counseling for the boys before you haul off and call the cops on them??? A little common sense here.

  • I saw that on the news! I thought it was stupid… I mean, I think it should be dealt by the boys’ parents, not the police or the national security. Ah, look at ‘em waste our tax money!
