COWS MILKED BEFORE DAWN FOR NEW BEDTIME DRINK
09:00 - 25 February 2004
Millions of insomniacs across the country searching for the key to a good night's sleep could soon find help in a new type of milk. Scientists have recently discovered that younger cows produce higher levels of melatonin - the chemical which makes humans feel drowsy - if they are milked before dawn.
Processors at Cricketer Farm have now harnessed the research and the end result - Night Time Milk - is now available on supermarket shelves.
The milk contains twice the normal levels of melatonin and early feedback suggests the drink does aid sleep.
