Lawmaker cited for illegal disposal
State Rep. Dell Hanson, a Vinton Republican, has been cited for throwing away an old bathtub, a vehicle muffler and construction debris at the local brush and compost dump.
Vinton police said Hanson dumped out a trailer full of debris on Saturday. He was cited for dumping where prohibited, which is punishable by up to $5,000 for each occurrence.
Hanson, a member of the House Environmental Protection Commission, said he didn't dump the muffler or oil filters that were found..
A county supervisor from 1985 to 2000, Hanson was a member of the county landfill commission for years.
