Chefs panned for poor food hygiene

LONDON - A new study has shown that television chefs are using methods that promise gastronomic delight, but could deliver gastroenteritis. Researchers found that for every example of correct food handling, there were 13 food hygiene errors, typically seven per 30-minute show.

One of the worst examples uncovered in the study, conducted by a team of food scientists at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, involved a chef who swatted a fly with a knife he was using to chop vegetables. Another chef hung dough to dry on kitchen taps, which are often covered with germs.

The failure to wash hands was observed in 75% of the programmes viewed. Close behind was the failure to separate raw and fresh foods.

  • theres a wonderfull new advert on british tv.. presently showing how germs are transferrred by hands.. all over the place.. they use some sort of lightup substance to represent the germs...

its amazing how far they go.. and thats just with an ordinary woman in her own kitchen....

  • hey i got your email... or ast least liz read  it to me..she has been kind of monopolising the computer lately.. heh heh.

if you happen to be passing through the raliegh area, that would be cool. We could have pizza and hang out or something. It would be neet to meet someone from xanga.

I was once invited to meet coalminer's daughter, marklipton and a few others from xanga land, but I was unable to travel to where they were meeting.

I will see if Liz (lizard_goddess), Miki (saradwinn), Misty (mystic_chick), Jodie (jocataquarius), my mom (delfyn) or Markie (happy_toadd) wouild like to come.

I know some of them at least may be up for meeting one of our subscribers in real life.  Perhaps Beatle (hey_bull_dog) could come, but I doubt that Choad (big_fat_lion_cat) could. He is a hard cat to travel with.

  • wow

I never noticed that on the food network...

  • This is interesting to me because I just had gastroenteritis about two weeks ago and I was wondering how I could have possibly gotten it. I'm fine now but it ended up spreading up to my lungs because I was a smoker and also became bronchitis. I got antibiotics and quit smoking and everything's in working order again.
