A group of children on a city-sponsored field trip witnessed a lamb being slaughtered at the Sunnyside Meats processing plant Tuesday.
The 15 children, ages 8 and 9, were enrolled in a city parks and recreation summer activity program called Gametime. The children and their program leaders took a full tour of the facility, and eight of them saw the 'harvest floor,' where animals are stunned, killed, gutted and skinned.

Only 15 people were in the program, and the city sponsored?!
well isnt that loverly
hopefully that little field trip made a few vegetarians.. i would be if i saw something slaughtered..poor lamb!
At least those kids will understand that lambchops come from those cute little animals they see at Easter - which is a dandy site better than the high school students recently surveyed that couldn't connect beef to cattle, bacon to pigs, or eggs to chickens. Where do they *think* our food comes from?
That makes me so mad, but Liz is right. Maybe some good will come out of it and one of those little kids will be a successful animal rights activist in the future. Damn the man!
Ikes! Not something I want to see. Those poor kiddos!
And that's how you make a vegitarian.
"Gametime"... lovely. If I had been on a field trip like that, I would have become vegetarian ages ago!
