Chicago to pay $1.2M for wrongful murder conviction
CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- City officials approved a $1.2 million settlement for a man who spent 11 1/2 years in prison for a murder he could not have committed because he was in police custody at the time.
Miguel Castillo, 49, whose conviction was overturned in 2000, sued the city and three police officers he accused of framing him and beating him.
He had been sentenced to 48 years.
