Martha 101: Teaching Housecleaning To The Poor

NEW YORK -  As part of an effort to reduce her presumptive jail sentence Martha Stewart wants to teach women how to tidy other people's homes, and their hotel rooms.

Stewart recently approached the Women's Venture Fund (WVF), a New York nonprofit, offering to work 20 hours a week teaching low-income and minority women to become entrepreneurs, according to Newsweek. The magazine says the domestic diva even created her own "curriculum" to teach "the art and science of cleaning."

Stewart will ask U.S. District Judge Miriam Cedarbaum to cut her prison time so she can work at WVF instead. This strategy would go into effect if her plea for a new trial fails.

At her trial, witnesses said Stewart employed dozens of maids, gardeners and others to attend to her several homes

Good help was hard to find and, according to Newsweek, the cleaning-service idea comes from her own experience of having difficulty finding employees to clean her estates.
